QuantIC Investigator elected as Fellow of Optica

QuantIC investigator Professor Peter Smith from University of Southampton has been elected as an Optica Fellow 2024.

QuantIC investigator Professor Peter Smith from University of Southampton has been elected as an Optica Fellow 2024.         

Peter is a Professor in the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton. Peter has worked on a number of areas in optics research ranging from laser spectroscopy to polymer integrated optics.

Professor Smith has been awarded for his pioneering research and commercialisation in nonlinear optics and Braggs gratings, with applications in quantum science, sensors and optical fabrication.

Optica is the society dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving and dissemination of knowledge in the field of photonics. Founded in 1916, it is the leading organisation for scientists, engineers, business professionals, students and others interested in the science of light.

Fellows are selected for their significant contributions to the advancement of optics and photonics through education, research, engineering, business leadership and service.

Peter said, “I’m delighted to receive this prestigious fellowship, a high honour in the field of photonics. I’m proud to join a distinguished group of leaders who are helping to advance optics and photonics and I congratulate my fellow awardees.”
