SEPTEMBER 2025
As we look ahead to a new academic year, this edition of our Connect newsletter offers an opportunity to pause and reflect. We begin with a piece from Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, sharing his reflections on his time as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, and his enduring belief in the power of international collaboration.
As Anton prepares to step down, we take this opportunity to express our profound gratitude for his visionary leadership and steadfast dedication to global engagement. Over the years, his commitment to fostering international partnerships has not only elevated the University’s global standing but also inspired a culture of openness, ambition, and shared purpose. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of our internationalisation activity and will continue to guide us for years to come.
With heartfelt thanks, we bid farewell to Anton and warmly welcome Professor Andy Schofield, who will assume the role of Principal and Vice-Chancellor from October 1st with a keenness to build on our strong partnerships and lead on the University’s new strategic plan. We look forward to working with Andy as we build on this strong foundation, deepening our global partnerships and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
This issue highlights the breadth of our international activity, from our long-standing relationship with the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) to our recent MoU with CIVIS.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to welcome the EAIE Conference to Glasgow in 2026, a milestone moment for our city and our institution, especially as this coincides with our 575th anniversary! We hope you will join us for our 'Partner Day' during that week, where we will celebrate the impact of collaboration and explore new opportunities together.
Thank you for being part of our global community!
Best wishes,
Professor Rachel Sandison OBE
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement)
