The University of Barcelona is in the top 250 world universities according to the Times Higher Education rankings. It is the principal centre of university research in Spain and has become a European benchmark for research activity, both in terms of the number of research programmes it conducts and the excellence these have achieved.

Barcelona, Spain’s second largest city, with a booming nightlife and cultural scene. Catalonia is region with a much used local language, Catalan, and a proud sense of autonomy. It is the home of the weird and wonderful architecture of Gaudí, such as the Sagrada Familia, as well as numerous music festivals and an expansive beach.
