About us

What is Glasgow Changing Futures?

Glasgow Changing Futures (GCF) is a programme of activity that supports our vision to be the world-changing university.

It will do this by enhancing our research, innovation, education, and knowledge exchange ecosystems, while strengthening internal resources and processes.

GCF is underpinned by strong engagement and partnerships with purpose – inviting academia, industry, and communities to work with us to co-create interventions for complex local, national, and global problems.

With a strong focus on inclusivity and equity, Glasgow Changing Futures will support us and our partners to deliver better outcomes for Glasgow, Scotland, and the world.

Why change is needed

Universities are well placed to change the future - the University of Glasgow has been doing this for more than 570 years.

Communities across the globe are facing interconnected problems like climate change, depletion of natural resources, and widening health inequalities. These challenges cannot be tackled in isolation. Powerful interventions are needed, grounded in research and cross-sector collaboration.

By aligning research, innovation and partnerships with societal needs, universities globally can play a transformative role in developing interventions for the biggest global challenges.

Glasgow Changing Futures is a framework to deliver our commitment to tackling these challenges and to accelerate progress where it is most needed: inspiring action, fostering even stronger collaboration, and driving systemic change, within and outside of the University.

Partnerships with purpose

Together we can create a healthy, equitable and sustainable future.

A key aim of Glasgow Changing Futures is to strengthen cross-sector partnerships and build upon the existing network of collaborations within the University community, and beyond.

By fostering even stronger collaborations locally, nationally, and globally, GCF can help unite stakeholders with a shared vision of creating authentic, meaningful change – connecting diverse knowledge and skills to accelerate powerful interventions, which are grounded in equity.

Together, we can change the world.

A university for the world

Over the centuries we have been at the forefront of innovation, evolving from our medieval roots to become a global leader in education and research – contributing significantly to intellectual, social, and scientific advancements which changed the future.

Our journey has not been without its challenges, and we have made mistakes along the way. Confronting our mistakes continues to play a critical role in shaping our trajectory. The lessons we have learned are helping to foster a more inclusive and socially conscious institution that aims to benefit everyone in society.

Our ambition to change the future is rooted in a commitment to equity, responsibility, and accountability.
