About SYSU and School of Foreign Languages
Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was founded in 1924 by the Chinese democratic revolutionary Dr. Sun Yat-sen. It is one of the top universities within China, which also enjoys world renown for its teaching and research.
The School of Foreign Languages (FLS) is one of the oldest schools of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Its predecessor, the Department of English Literature, was established in 1924. It was joined by the
French, German and Japanese departments in 1957, 1958 and 1978 respectively. The school is known as one of the strongholds in such areas as linguistics, English literature, and translation studies.
Eligibility
- Non-Chinese Students from universities outside China
- Students who have completed at least one-semester’s study at their home universities
- Adequate English proficiency
Application
Required Materials
(1) Registration form
(2) A nomination/ recommendation letter
(3) An official academic transcript
(4) A copy of passport or identity card (photo page)
(5) A color ID photograph (e-copy)
(6) Insurance: All students must secure comprehensive insurance from their home country, covering all aspects of their visit to China, including travel insurance, medical care, accident and emergency, hospitalisation, repatriation, and deportation.

(2) Step 2: Send all the application materials to: wangz37@mail.sysu.edu.cn
(3) Step 3: Receive admission package from SYSU
Scholarship and Fees
1. Admitted students will receive funding from the Chinese Government Scholarship administered by China Scholarship Council (CSC), covering tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, 14-day living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance within China.
2. The international airfare, health insurance outside China, visa fee, local transportation, and other expenses shall be borne by the applicant.
Accommodation
On-campus double room accommodation is available for the students who are admitted as members of the program and who have submitted required materials before the deadline.
