Commemoration Day 2025
As the University of Glasgow approaches its 575th year, we were delighted to celebrate Commemoration Day 2025 with alumni, donors and friends of the University.
Commemoration Day is a treasured tradition at the University of Glasgow, honouring our foundation in 1451 and the generosity that has sustained us for more than five centuries. Thanks to supporters like you, this remarkable legacy continues to thrive and UofG continue to be world changing.
This milestone day begins In the University Chapel where the Principal reads the Roll of Benefactors. This document, which dates back to the 17th century, remembers those who have supported the University gives thanks to those, past and present, who make a difference.
Commemoration Day is also a day of celebration for those receiving Honorary Degrees. Following the reading of the Roll of Benefactors, UofG Chancellor Dame Katherine Grainger conferred Honorary Degrees on this year’s graduands in the Bute Hall. Among this year’s recipients were Sharleen Spiteri, Kirsty Young and Professor Sir John Curtice.
